The day was magical on the water as we traveled through Barmah National Park my special place on the Murray. The wildlife we encountered was incredible. Saw a bird that we had not seen before in this area, the Nankeen Night Heron. At first appearance the flock looked like huge bats flying across the sky. In flight they appear majestic and acrobatic. A sight I will never forget.
We also sighted swallows (Fairy Martins) darting in and out of the cliff nests in the early morning.
Other birds we saw were the White Face Heron, Cockatoos, Fairy Wren, Darter & Noisy Friarbird just to name a few.
Bird-life is really abundant here and the beautiful sounds they make filled the air along the Murray River.
We moored at Ulupna Island to spot Koalas as many locals call it ‘Koala Island’. We sighted several high up in the gum trees mostly sleeping except one who was equally checking us out. The Island was secluded with only a few campers around.
The end of the day didn’t disappoint as Gulpa Creek Resort kindly provided free accommodation in their glam tent.
What luxury and incredible park with immaculate facilities and attention to detail. The owner had our glam tent ready with wine in the refrigerator and breakfast for the morning. We cannot thank Gary enough for his kind generosity and warm hospitality and support to Kiss MS Goodbye Murray River Expedition.
